PORT MULGRAVE, COASTAL & CLEVELAND WAY

Welcome to Daffodil Cottage

Rural

Daffodil Cottage can be found in the rural location of the National Park, Port Mulgrave, nine miles from Whitby, just outside of Hinderwell and between the fishing villages of Staithes in one direction and Runswick Bay in the other (one mile to each).
Situated on the Cleveland Way, Daffodil Cottage is the ideal base to enjoy and experience the stunning North Yorkshire Coast and Moors.
The cottage was originally built in the early 1900’s as a miner’s cottage to provide accommodation for miners and their families working on, the then, very lucrative Alum mines. With the port providing an onwards transport link for shipping the minerals. Now the port serves as an excellent location for fossil hunting.
Ant and I bought Daffodil cottage in the summer of 2022 but due to work commitments with Bramblewick, we had to wait until the beginning of 2023 before we could start the much-needed renovation. There was no heating or running hot water, holes in the floorboards and one coal fire to heat the whole house.
Because the cottage is quirky and cosy in places, we took a lot of time and research in finding the best ways to make the cottage comfortable without getting rid of the heart of the home that attracted us in the first place, as we stay there during quieter winter months.
So, there are still a number of original features to be found in the cottage including stone walls, timber lintels and the original internal doors. With the stained-glass daffodils sitting above the internal kitchen door.
The cottage now benefits from central and underfloor heating, instant hot water, a power shower, log burner, Wi-Fi, digital television, fitted kitchen, washer/drier, electric oven, ceramic hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, vanity units in each bedroom with back lit mirrors above and the all-important boot room for walkers.
There is a tap outside if you need to wash off any mud post walks and a blanket for your dog.
The cottage can sleep up to four people with one bedroom containing a king size bed and the other a double. Both with high thread count cotton bedding and fluffy towels supplied.
The kitchen is well stocked with all the essential utensils that you may need and there is a coop store close by for you to stock up on any produce you may require. Alternatively, if you don’t wish to cook, there are a number of places to eat within easy reach.
